FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Are pre-orders required or can I stop by?

Pre-orders are not necessary unless you want specific items on a specific day.

We stock the Carb Cart throughout the week with sourdough favorites. Anyone can stop by the cart any day of the week and pick up some goodies from the self-serve cart.

You can also send us a message if you'd like us to stock certain items in the cart more often, but can't commit to a specific day/time. We like hearing what our community wants to see in the cart!

Can I pay with cash when I pick up my order?

Yes! Enter the coupon code CASHONPICKUP during checkout, and deposit payment at the Carb Cart bakery stand when you arrive to pick up your order.

Do you use commercial yeast?

No, all of our bread uses sourdough starter and a long fermentation to rise.

Muffins, cookies, cornbread, and other baked goods use sourdough starter, but may also include baking soda or baking powder since they need to rise in a shorter period of time.

We do not currently sell products made with commercial yeast. Commercial yeast products are easy to find at the grocery store, so we decided to focus on sourdough-based items.

What about allergens?

Our products are cooked in a home-based kitchen, so there is always a chance of cross-contact with common allergens since we do not have allergen-specific equipment.

That being said, our home was formerly a duplex and came with two kitchens. The upstairs kitchen is dedicated to our bakery, and has its own utensils, oven, and bakery equipment that is not shared with our everyday kitchen. There is a door, and pets are not allowed in the kitchen.

That means allergen cross-contact is limited to cross-contact that may have happened to our ingredients before we purchased them at the store, and with ingredients we use within our bakery kitchen. The most common allergens we use in our menu are milk/dairy, eggs, corn, sesame, soy, and (of course) wheat/gluten. Please do not consume any of our baked goods if you have a cross-contact sensitive allergy to any of these ingredients.

Where possible, we prefer to limit the ingredients to our recipes rather than include additional allergens in products. For example, we do not dust wheat breads with rice flour just to make the crust white. We do not want to add any allergens to our menu without good reason.

Can I take "Pay What You Can" stickered items for free?

Of course! We believe everyone deserves good food. Any leftover loaves or baked goods in the cart are marked with a “Pay What You Can or Take for Free” sticker. Please feel free to take and share these with anyone who could use them.
Don’t forget to grab a free bread care, freeze, and refresh card (or magnet) when you stop by!
